Jack Hamm (1916-1996)
Jack Hamm was one of the first Christian artists to have his own
regularly broadcast art show in the late '50s and early '60s on Texas
TV stations. He authored millions-selling art books which are still in
print to this day, as well as a number of single panel Christian
cartoons which appeared in Texas-based magazine, THE BAPTIST STANDARD,
and elsewhere.
A talented graphic
illustrator Mr. Hamm's work work has appeared in Christian and
secular, magazines and newspapers across the country.
His art
instruction books, including
Cartooning the Head and Figure, have been widely influential among
a generation of illustrators, including "The Simpson's" creator Matt
Groening.
Hamm began his cartooning career in
the late 1930s and founded "The Jack Hamm Show," one of the first
television art programs, which aired in the Dallas, Houston and Waco,
Texas, TV markets. Jack Hamm's books are still the best art
instruction books. With nearly a million copies sold, his books have
helped aspiring artists of every age and level of ability learn to
draw and improve their technique.
Several years ago I contacted Mr.
Hamm and asked for copies of his work. He sent hundreds of Christian
graphics for my personal use in our church newsletter.
Upon seeing the
the concise and pointed biblical messages included in these graphics, I
called and asked
Mr. Hamm if I could scan the graphics and make them available online.
Mr. Hamm gave permission and stated his desire that these graphics be
used free of charge to all who would use them to further the gospel. I
have placed an example below. Click here to
download Mr. Hamm's many graphic files.
We have a CD containing
all the graphics available. If you would like a copy please pay
